Nigeria’s political landscape is on the brink of a major shake-up as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso prepare to dump their current platform for a new political alliance ahead of 2027.

CBI News understands that a former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are reportedly set to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress next week, signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s opposition politics.

The announcement was made by Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, who revealed that negotiations with the NDC are about 90% complete, with only minor details left to finalize.

According to Mohammed, both leaders, alongside other prominent political figures, are expected to officially defect by early next week following a unanimous endorsement by key stakeholders.

The decision comes after a strategic meeting involving representatives from all 44 local government areas in Kano, where the move received full backing.

A key driver behind the planned defection is the ongoing crisis within the African Democratic Congress. Internal leadership disputes and recent court rulings have raised concerns about the party’s stability as the 2027 general elections approach.

Stakeholders reportedly agreed that remaining in a party entangled in legal uncertainty could limit political momentum, prompting the search for a more stable and strategic platform.

If confirmed, the move could trigger a major realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape, as opposition forces begin to reposition and consolidate ahead of the next election cycle.
