Exiled crowned prince expresses desire to return and lead Iran...
The exiled Iranian crown prince, Reza Pahlavi, has announced that he is ready to lead Iran through a political transition following growing uncertainty after reports of the killing of the country’s Supreme Leader.
Pahlavi, the eldest son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, made the declaration in a video statement posted on his 𝕏 account, stating that he had accepted calls from many Iranians urging him to assume leadership if the current regime collapses.
According to him, citizens seeking political change have asked him to step forward and guide the country during what could become a critical period in Iran’s political history.
“The Iranian people have called on me to lead the transition after the regime is gone,” Pahlavi said.
“I have accepted that responsibility. Part of their great mandate to me is to return our nation and our foreign relations to normalcy. I will do exactly that.”
The exiled prince emphasised that his goal would be to maintain stability during any political transition while allowing Iranians to decide the country’s future through democratic processes.
“My commitment is to ensure the transition is orderly, the country is stabilized, and Iranians determine their future through the ballot box,” he added.
CBI News reports that Pahlavi also called on countries in the Arab world and the wider international community to support a potential transitional government should political change occur in Iran.
“Iranians have made their choice, at an enormous price. Now I ask our friends in the Arab world to join us. To prepare to recognize and engage our transitional government,” he said.
The development follows reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed during joint military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday.
Under Iranian law, the Assembly of Experts is responsible for appointing the country’s supreme leader. However, the body has not yet announced a successor.
In the meantime, a three-member transitional council made up of the president, the head of the judiciary and a member of the Guardian Council is reportedly overseeing the country’s affairs.
Pahlavi has remained one of the most prominent opposition figures against the Islamic Republic for decades, consistently calling for protests against the Iranian government, advocating the removal of the current ruling system and promoting closer relations between Iran, Western countries and Israel.
