It’s official – if you’re an okada rider in Oyo State, your work day now ends at 10:30 p.m. sharp. Governor Seyi Makinde signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026 on Friday, and it’s all about tightening security across the state, CBI News TV reports.

The big change? Commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as okada riders, are now banned from working between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The move comes after growing security worries, especially following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area more than 20 days ago.

Speaking at the signing, Governor Makinde didn’t mince words. He said unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles have become a go-to for criminals because they’re hard for security agencies to track. So what does the order actually do? It gives authorities the legal backing to get tough on vehicle registration and traffic laws. That means they can now arrest offenders, impound unregistered bikes and cars, and take violators to court. Makinde explained that the night ban on okadas is just one part of a wider plan to cut down crime and keep residents safe.

He said the state learnt hard lessons from recent security breaches like the Oriire abduction, and that’s why they’re rolling out extra measures. The governor also had a message for residents: help the security agencies do their job. He urged people to report anything suspicious by calling the state’s toll-free emergency line, 615. He rounded off by commending the police, other security agencies, and the Amotekun Corps for their work protecting lives and property in Oyo.
