Allowance meant to help cushion the effect of the rising cost of transportation...
Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a ₦10,000 monthly transportation allowance for civil servants across Oyo State.
The governor said the initiative will run for an initial period of three months.
The Southwest Nigeria state governor made this known on Monday while overseeing the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme, held in collaboration with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Mastercard at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub.
According to Makinde, the initiative forms part of the state government’s strategic response to current economic challenges, especially the rising cost of transportation, which has been affecting workers’ welfare and productivity.
Makinde's disbursement guidelines would be communicated through appropriate government channels in due course.
The governor said that the initiative was part of the state government’s response to prevailing economic challenges, particularly the rising cost of transportation driven by the ongoing energy crisis.
According to him, the challenge had affected workers’ welfare and productivity.
The U.S-Israel airstrikes on Iran which began on February 28, have led to a rise in the price of petroleum products on the international market.
In Nigeria, the pump price of petrol has risen to around ₦1300 from ₦860 per litre, which in turn has led to an increase in transport fares and food items.
