Oyo State has taken another major step in its fight against crime as the two surveillance aircraft purchased by the state government have finally arrived in Ibadan. The development fulfils an earlier promise by Governor Seyi Makinde that the aircraft would be delivered before the end of July. cbinews.tv reports.
The two surveillance aircraft acquired by the Oyo State Government have officially arrived in Ibadan, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to strengthen security through improved aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering.
According to cbinews.tv, the arrival of the aircraft fulfils the state government's earlier assurance that they would be delivered before the end of July.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government described the arrival as another major boost to ongoing efforts to improve security operations across Oyo State.
Oyelade recalled that the state first announced the purchase of the two surveillance aircraft on 8 July 2025, as part of Governor Seyi Makinde's strategy to equip security agencies with better tools to tackle emerging security challenges.
He also noted that Governor Makinde had earlier confirmed, on 18 July 2026, that the aircraft had already arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.
The commissioner added that the government had recently reassured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.
The surveillance aircraft are expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, and other security formations by enhancing aerial monitoring, intelligence gathering and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
Oyelade further disclosed that Governor Makinde was personally at the airport to receive the aircraft, describing the arrival as another important investment in safeguarding lives and property in Oyo State.
