The Oyo State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public primary schools in Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire and Olorunsogo LGAs following the abduction of students and the killing of a teacher in Oriire Local Government Area.
Cbinews.tv reports that Fear and tension have spread across parts of Oyo State after gunmen abducted several students and killed a teacher, forcing the state government to shut down schools in four local government areas.
The shocking attack happened in the early hours of Friday at LEA School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele. According to reports, several students were kidnapped, while the principal of the secondary school was also reportedly taken away by the attackers.
Confirming the incident, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran, said the government decided to temporarily close schools in the affected areas to allow security agencies restore calm and fully secure the communities.
Adeniran also confirmed that a teacher lost his life during the attack, describing the incident as tragic and deeply disturbing.
He explained that authorities are still working to determine the exact number of students abducted, as security operatives continue search and rescue efforts in the affected communities.
According to him, the temporary closure is aimed at preventing further attacks and ensuring the safety of pupils, teachers and residents while investigations continue.
The incident has sparked fear among parents and residents, with many calling for stronger security measures around schools in vulnerable communities.
