Oyo NMA threatens seven-day strike from Oct. 2 over poor welfare, staffing shortages, and decaying infrastructure at LAUTECH.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Oyo State chapter, has announced it will embark on a seven-day warning strike from Oct. 2 if the state government fails to meet its welfare demands for members at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho.
Speaking to newsmen in Ibadan, the association’s chairman, Dr. Happy Adedapo, said the action is aimed at drawing attention to worsening conditions facing healthcare workers, including poor welfare, inadequate infrastructure, and burnout.
He recalled that the association had issued a 15-day ultimatum to the state government on Sept. 18, urging action on demands such as improved pay structures, timely allowances, recruitment of more staff, and infrastructure upgrades at LAUTECH.
CBI News reports that Adedapo warned that failure to act could trigger a total collapse of healthcare services across the state, urging Gov. Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders to step in urgently to avert a looming crisis.
