Another political shake up in Delta State. Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo Agege has walked away from the APC, saying his future lies elsewhere.
Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo Agege, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress, cbinews.tv reports.
Omo Agege made his resignation public in a letter dated 22 May 2026, addressed to the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his media adviser, Sunday Areh, the former senator said the move followed recent developments within the party in Delta State and consultations with his political associates and supporters.
He explained that his political aspirations, and the interests of his constituents, would be better pursued outside the APC.
Omo Agege also thanked the party for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. He stressed that he remains committed to pushing for development and effective representation for Delta Central and Nigeria.
His resignation comes shortly after he lost the APC senatorial primary for Delta Central Senatorial District. Incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone beat Omo Agege in the direct primary held across the eight local government areas of the district under the Option A4 voting system.
Announcing the results, Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, Nusa Amagbor, said Dafinone polled 116,252 votes while Omo Agege scored 3,643 votes.
Amagbor noted that the exercise was conducted in line with party guidelines before declaring Dafinone the winner for securing the highest number of valid votes cast.
