Seen those panic-filled WhatsApp broadcasts about pupils being snatched in Osun? Governor Ademola Adeleke says relax — nothing happened, and he's just put refurbished armoured trucks back on the road to keep it that way.
According to a statement first published by cbinewstv, Governor Adeleke has come out swinging against the viral rumours.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Tuesday, the governor called the kidnapping claims the handiwork of "mischief-makers" trying to stir fear.
"I urge our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken decisive steps to secure our schools," he said.
Here's what his team says they've actually done:
Fact-checks done: Security teams visited border communities and other hotspots across Osun. Result? No kidnappings reported.
Schools locked down (in a good way): The Ministry of Education is working with police, Amotekun, NSCDC and other agencies on a comprehensive security programme that's already being implemented.
Parents told to stay calm: Adeleke insists the alarm was deliberately designed to destabilise the state and create unnecessary panic.
And then there was a bit of political shade. Remember those Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) left to rust by the previous administration? Adeleke says his government has fully refurbished them.
"We inherited damaged APCs. We have now restored them, and the public will soon witness a strengthened security architecture to protect lives and property," he added.
He also warned anyone thinking of fanning the flames: local intelligence networks are actively monitoring border towns, and "no stone will be left unturned" to keep pupils, residents and their property safe.
So, in short: no kidnappings, more patrols, and a governor keen to call out fake news before it spreads.
