Osun Declares Tuesday Work-Free Day for PVC Collection

Public servants in Osun State have been given Tuesday, July 28, 2026, off work, and there is a good reason for it.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared it a work-free day to allow workers to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and detailed in a statement signed by the Governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday.
According to the statement, the holiday applies to all categories of public servants, including local government workers and staff of tertiary institutions.
The state government explained that the move is aimed at “enabling public servants to perform their civic obligations ahead of the forthcoming governorship election and future elections in the state.”
There is an exception, though. Workers on essential duties, including medical and security personnel, have been advised to make internal arrangements to ensure their absence does not affect service delivery to the public.
Governor Adeleke also used the opportunity to appeal to all registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs.
“I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay. Your vote is your power. Your voter's card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box,” he said.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026. Incumbent Governor Adeleke, now of the Accord Party, is seeking re-election and will face leading contenders including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties for the poll, with the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party not fielding candidates.
