With just a day until the Osun governorship election, the race has taken an interesting turn as APM candidate Adebayo Simon Adewale steps down and throws his weight behind Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Adebayo Simon Adewale, has announced his withdrawal from the contest and asked his supporters to back incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Adewale made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday, saying the decision followed consultations with party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders.

He described the move as a conscious decision to put the interests of Osun State ahead of his personal political ambition.

According to him, politics should be about serving the people, and he believes Adeleke deserves another term to continue what he described as the progress recorded by his administration.

Adewale said:

“I have decided to withdraw from the Osun State governorship race.”

He also called on members of the APM and his supporters across the state to support Adeleke’s re-election.

The APM candidate said his decision was aimed at promoting peace, stability, development and what he described as the collective interest of Osun State.

With the election just around the corner, Adewale’s withdrawal and endorsement of Adeleke could add another layer to an already closely watched contest.
