Osun 2026: Adeleke Secures First Win for Accord Party

It's early days, but the dancing governor is off the mark.
Well, the first numbers are in — and Governor Ademola Adeleke has just drawn first blood.
According to cbinews.tv, INEC officials at Polling Unit 026, Ward 5 in Oshogbo Local Government Area have declared the Accord Party winner. Adeleke polled 57 votes to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) with **43 votes.
It’s only one polling unit, mind you, but in Osun politics, momentum is everything. And if you’re an Adeleke watcher, you’ll know he loves to set the tone early.
Why this matters — the bigger picture
Let’s put this into context.
This is not your regular governorship poll. This is Adeleke’s re-election test, but on a completely different platform. Remember, the man popularly called the Dancing Senator only left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on 4th November 2025, citing the protracted national leadership crisis that split the party into two factions.
He joined the Accord Party on 6th November and clinched its ticket on Wednesday with 145 out of 150 delegate votes from across Osun’s 30 local government areas.
For a bit of history: Adeleke’s political journey has been pure drama. He stepped in back in 2017 after the passing of his elder brother, Isiaka Adeleke — Osun’s first civilian governor — winning the Osun West Senatorial bye-election. He narrowly lost the infamous 2018 governorship election to Gboyega Oyetola, then came back to defeat Oyetola in 2022 under the PDP with 403,371 votes to 375,027. Now he’s trying to do it again, but in Accord colours.
Oshogbo, where this first result came from, is the state capital and a key battleground. In 2022, Adeleke dominated Oshogbo LGA, so holding Polling Unit 026 is psychologically important for his camp.
INEC says results from across the 3,763 polling units in the state are still trickling in. As cbinews.tv reports, there have been pockets of intimidation, alleged vote-buying and electoral skirmishes, but voting has largely been peaceful in many areas.
One unit down, thousands to go. Is this a sign of what’s to come, or just an early tease?
