Osun 2026: Adeleke Campaign Alleges Police Plot to Arrest 46 Accord Members

Osun politics is getting really heated ahead of the August 15 Gubernatorial election.
The Imole Campaign Council, which is leading Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election bid, has raised a serious alarm, alleging a plot to clamp down on its members, reports cbinews.tv.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, the Deputy Director-General of the council, Kolapo Alimi, claimed the state police command had drawn up a list of 46 people marked for arrest ahead of the governorship election.
According to him, those allegedly targeted are mainly from Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area, with Commissioner for Energy, Ademola Adeyemo, said to be top of the list.
Alimi also alleged that a chieftain of the Accord Party in Ikire, Taofeek Akinyemi, who was reportedly shot by hoodlums, was arrested and detained after reporting the incident to the police.
He further accused an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps of working with the opposition to facilitate mass arrests of Accord Party members to disrupt campaign activities.
"Even more alarming are the credible security reports reaching the leadership of the Imole Campaign Council regarding a coordinated 'hit list' drawn up by political opponents in collusion with compromised security operatives," Alimi said.
He listed some of those allegedly marked as Idris Idowu Jooda, Pastor Paul Akinola, Mukaila Yusuf, Dr Kazeem Atoba, Yesiru Olaniyi, Alhaji Olokeola, Wale Olunloye, Taye Adeyemo and others, claiming they were to be transferred to Abuja to keep them out of circulation during the election.
The council demanded the immediate release of Akinyemi or his arraignment in court and called on the Inspector General of Police to direct the Osun Command and special squads from Abuja to stop what it described as arbitrary arrests. It also urged Force Headquarters to ensure only neutral and professional officers are deployed for the poll.
Responding, the Osun State Police Command dismissed the allegations. Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said operatives would continue to raid criminal hideouts across the state to protect lives and property.
