Fancy watching the Headies live from Lagos while the main show goes down in Toronto? The awards are packing their bags again – and the organisers have told cbinews.tv exactly why.
So, here we go again – the Headies are leaving Nigeria. Yep, you read that right. According to cbinews.tv, organisers have just confirmed that the 18th edition of the awards will be held in Canada.
If this feels like déjà vu, that’s because it is. Remember 2022? The 15th Headies jetted off to Atlanta before coming back home to Lagos for the 17th edition in 2025. Now, Toronto is getting the spotlight.
Headies founder Ayo Animashaun spilled the tea on Monday at “The Big Announcement” event in Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos. When someone asked him, “Ayo, you’re taking the Headies out of the country again – that doesn’t make sense,” his response was pretty blunt: “Tell me what makes sense. Does it make sense for us not to do it anymore?”
His reason? It’s all about the money, really. Animashaun said hosting in Toronto is “highly economical”. But don’t worry, Lagos isn’t being left out. There’ll be a live watch party happening back home at the same time as the main ceremony. So Nigerian fans can still catch the vibes, celebrate, and see parts of the awards as they unfold abroad.
Basically, it’s a win-win: the show goes on, the costs stay manageable, and fans in Lagos still get their moment.
