29 new traditional rulers just got the crown in Ibadan — but Oba Ladoja had some strong words for them about land grabbing and security.
Big doings in Ibadan this week! The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, just installed a fresh set of 18 Mogajis and 11 Baales at his palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan. The ceremony went down at the Banquet Hall of the Olubadan Palace, and it was packed with high-ranking chiefs, traditional and religious leaders.
Now, it wasn’t just about the caps and beads. Oba Ladoja, speaking through Ashipa Olubadan Oba Salawudeen Amidu Ajibade and Ekerin Balogun Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, made it clear that these new chiefs are now his direct ambassadors. Translation: their behaviour reflects on the throne and the whole of Ibadanland.
And he didn’t mince words. According to a press release from the Olubadan’s Chief Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Ayoade, the monarch warned them straight up:
> “As my ambassadors, anywhere you find yourselves, do not be involved in any nefarious activity so that you will not be sanctioned.”
Land grabbing was a hot topic too. Oba Ladoja said it’s becoming “the order of the day” in Ibadanland and rarely happens without traditional rulers backing it. His message? Anyone caught aiding it will face court and have their chieftaincy withdrawn. He also charged them to step up as Chief Security Officers in their domains — be vigilant and proactive about insecurity.
So, who made the list?
