Nigerian governor stops convoy to rescue over 10 victims involved in highway crash.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, personally intervened to rescue victims of a ghastly motor accident along the Benin–Auchi Highway, near the bypass.

The governor, who was travelling to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area with his entourage, met a heavy gridlock and alighted to assess the situation, only to discover several accident victims in dire need of help.

Eyewitnesses told CBI News that many of the victims were bleeding profusely, while bystanders and motorists were recording videos rather than rendering assistance.

The crash involved four vehicles — a white Toyota Venza (ABUJA, GWA 50 AW) that allegedly drove against traffic, and three fully loaded commercial minibuses. The impact left scores injured and caused a traffic standstill.

Upon arrival, Governor Okpebholo immediately ordered that two of his security Hilux vehicles be converted into emergency transport vans.

He personally supervised as over 10 injured passengers, including a woman with severe injuries, were carefully lifted into the vehicles and rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment under the escort of another security vehicle.

The governor remained at the scene until he was assured that the victims were safely conveyed to a medical facility before continuing his journey.

His swift intervention drew applause from motorists, residents, and sympathisers, who hailed him as a compassionate and God-fearing leader.

“Before the governor arrived, people were only taking pictures and videos. But he came, took charge, and ensured the victims were rescued. This is the kind of leader we need; one who leads with compassion and action,” an eyewitness remarked.
