Edo State Governor settles hospital expenses for a pregnant woman and her husband...
The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has settled the medical bills of a pregnant woman and her husband who is currently receiving treatment for severe burns.
CBI News reports that the governor made the intervention during a visit to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, where he also paid the medical expenses of several other patients admitted in different wards of the facility.
Speaking with journalists after the visit, Okpebholo explained that the pregnant woman had initially approached him to seek financial assistance for her husband, who suffered serious burns from a fire incident.
According to the governor, the situation became urgent after members of his medical team discovered that the woman was already due for delivery and immediately arranged for her to be taken to the hospital.
Doctors later performed a cesarean section, leading to the safe delivery of her baby.
“The woman came to seek help for her husband because they were looking for money to pay his bills. When my doctors saw her and observed she was due, they rushed her to the hospital immediately where she later put to birth through cesserean operations,” the governor said.
Okpebholo added that his administration had reached an agreement with the hospital management to offset the medical bills of the couple as well as other patients currently receiving treatment at the facility.
“We have agreed with the hospital management to pay the bills and that of other patients we meet in the ward. So they have no reason to cry over payments of bills. By this their treatment can continue. By the grace of God, we believe that the man and others in the ICU unit will recover speedily,” he added.
The governor said the gesture reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting residents of Edo State, particularly those facing medical emergencies and financial hardship.
