Obasogie insists goals conceded against Flambeau de Centre and Namungo FC were footballing errors...
Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has spoken out following his suspension by Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars over alleged match-fixing.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper was handed a three-month ban on Friday for allegedly manipulating the outcome of a CAF Confederation Cup fixture and a domestic league match.
CBI News reports that the club claimed the incidents involved their clash with Flambeau de Centre and an NBC Premier League game against Namungo FC.
Obasogie, however, firmly rejected the allegations, insisting he would clear his name.
“I state clearly that I have never engaged in match-fixing and will never do so,” Obasogie said in a statement.
“The goals conceded in the CAF Confederation Cup match against Flambeau de Centre and the NBC Premier League fixture against Namungo FC were the result of footballing errors, not deliberate misconduct.
“I accept full responsibility for my performance; however mistakes on the field must not be mistaken for match manipulation.”
The former Bendel Insurance goalkeeper also reaffirmed his loyalty to Singida Black Stars.
“I’m committed to serving the club with honour and contributing to its success,” he added.
Meanwhile in England, Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović has confirmed that Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi is close to returning from injury.
Ajayi, 32, has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), missing Hull’s last seven matches across competitions.
Providing an update ahead of the weekend’s Championship trip to Portsmouth F.C., Jakirović said, “He trained with us normally today, which is great news.
“We will see if he’s with us in Portsmouth or will be in the squad at Ipswich on Tuesday.”
