Atiku says his wealth was built through business investments before entering politics...
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has explained the origin of his wealth, stating that it was built through years of business activities before his entry into politics.
CBI News reports that he made this known during an interview on Arise News, where he detailed his investments across multiple sectors, including logistics, real estate, agriculture, education, and oil and gas.
Atiku said he was already well established in business long before becoming involved in politics, stressing that his financial background has always been transparent.
He added that he has not faced corruption allegations because of the clarity surrounding how his wealth was earned.
“I made my money through business before joining politics. I invested in oil and gas, logistics, agriculture and other sectors,” he said.
“I was already established in business before I became involved in politics.”
The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party also spoke about his role in the formation of the party, noting that he contributed significantly both in structure and funding.
“I played a major role in setting up the PDP and also contributed financially to its formation,” he stated.
Reflecting on past scrutiny, Atiku recalled that during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a panel was constituted to investigate him.
He said he did not obstruct the process, despite having the option to rely on immunity at the time.
“No one accused me of corruption at that time because my sources of income were clear.
“A panel was set up to investigate me, and I allowed it to go ahead without hiding behind immunity.
“That panel included people like El-Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu,” he added.
Atiku, who remains active in Nigeria’s political landscape, is among those seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
