Members urged to remain calm and law-abiding as the leadership dispute rocking the union unfolds..
The crisis rocking the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has taken a new turn, following an alleged invasion of its national secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.
The union condemned the incident, describing it as a breach of due process and a threat to industrial harmony.
Factional General Secretary, Kayode Agbeyangi, says suspected hoodlums stormed the complex in the early hours of Monday, disrupting activities and preventing staff from resuming work.
He alleged that the action was carried out under the guise of enforcing a court judgment without prior notice.
He insisted that proper legal procedures were ignored.
Agbeyangi also claims that properties within the secretariat were vandalised, with several items destroyed and others carted away.
He said that the union has already filed an appeal and secured a stay of execution, adding that multiple cases concerning the dispute are still pending before the court.
Speaking on the development, Factional National President of the union, Musiliu Akinsanya also known as MC Oluomo describes the incident as a forceful takeover, maintaining that he was not a party to the judgment being enforced and that legal processes are still ongoing.
