The NSCDC has sealed off steel company facilities across Nigeria over alleged links to railway vandalism, stolen rail materials and economic sabotage as investigations deepen.
According to cbinews.tv, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sealed facilities belonging to Inner Galaxy Steel across the country over alleged involvement in railway vandalism and the recycling of stolen national infrastructure materials.
The crackdown follows a court order secured by the Corps after suspects were arrested and vandalised railway tracks and sleepers were reportedly traced to the company’s premises in Birnin Yero, Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.
Speaking during a media briefing on Sunday, NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi said investigators are looking into serious allegations including conspiracy, destruction of railway infrastructure, theft, concealment of stolen property and even alleged terrorism financing.
Afolabi explained that the court order authorised the sealing of the facility and the transfer of recovered railway materials to the Nigerian Railway Corporation for use as exhibits in prosecution.
“The facility will remain sealed pending the conclusion of investigations,” he stated.
The order also extends to facilities allegedly linked to Inner Galaxy Steel Company and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd in Abia and Zamfara states, alongside any other connected branches nationwide.
According to the NSCDC, some arrested workers allegedly confessed that stolen railway materials and other critical infrastructure components were routinely transported to the factories where they were melted down and recycled into products such as roofing sheets and nails.
The Corps also disclosed that some Chinese nationals connected to the investigation have been invited for questioning but are yet to honour the invitation.
NSCDC Commandant General Ahmed Audi called on Nigerians to support security agencies with credible intelligence to help tackle vandalism and economic sabotage across the country.
He also directed operatives handling the case to maintain professionalism and ensure every suspect found culpable faces prosecution in line with the law.
Railway vandalism remains a growing concern in Nigeria despite huge government investments in modern rail projects like the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan rail lines. Security agencies say the destruction and theft of railway infrastructure continue to threaten public safety, disrupt transportation and increase maintenance costs nationwide.
