You really can’t hide forever — not when locals and security forces are teaming up. The NSCDC just paraded suspected cable vandals in Lagos, and they’re still hunting down the ones who got away.
So, here’s what went down in Lagos. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has rounded up several suspected cable vandals and other alleged criminals in a string of operations across the state.
The suspects got their moment in the spotlight on Monday at the command HQ on Awolowo Road, Alausa, Ikeja, as reported by cbinews.tv.
According to the command, it wasn’t just luck — these arrests came from proper intelligence work and solid teamwork with local communities and private security outfits.
The Okun Ajah raid
NSCDC’s PRO, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, told reporters that two suspects were caught red-handed on Saturday while allegedly stripping armoured cables worth millions in Okun Ajah.
How’d they get caught? Residents tipped them off. Proton Security Limited raised the alarm too, and NSCDC operatives wasted no time getting to the scene.
Two other suspects linked to that job managed to leg it, but the NSCDC isn’t letting them off. “The two suspects who are at large can only run, but they cannot hide forever,” Abolurin said.
It’s all about community
Abolurin made it clear: working with the community is what’s making the difference. “We got these arrests through intelligence gathering and consistent community engagement,” he said.
The command’s been doubling down on partnerships with traditional rulers, youth groups, market associations, and private security firms all over Lagos.
More arrests across Lagos
That wasn’t all. Another suspect was picked up over transformer cable vandalism in Shogunle, Oshodi, on Friday — investigations are still ongoing there.
Then there’s the Orchid Road, Lekki case. Operatives arrested suspects accused of nicking eight lithium batteries back on 15 June. They were nabbed around 4:00 p.m. while investigations were still hot.
“We will ensure due diligence for prosecution and possible conviction through the court,” Abolurin added. He also noted that several older cable vandalism cases are already in court — including a 44-year-old suspect currently being prosecuted.
Togolese Army deserters caught too
In a bit of a twist, NSCDC operatives also apprehended two deserters from the Togolese Army. They’ll be handed over to the right authorities for further investigation.
NSCDC’s message to Lagosians
Abolurin’s plea was simple: keep the intel coming. Public cooperation is key to protecting critical national infrastructure. He reaffirmed that the NSCDC is fully committed to tackling vandalism, infrastructure theft, and economic sabotage across Lagos State.
