NRC Boss takes full responsibility for Abuja-Kaduna train derailment, vows safety reforms.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, has accepted full responsibility for the derailment of the Abuja-Kaduna train on Tuesday. Speaking during an interview on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, Opeifa apologised to Nigerians and affirmed that, as the head of the agency, he is accountable for the incident.
He assured the public that the ongoing investigation will be thorough and not hidden, stressing that safety remains a top priority for the NRC.
While acknowledging that such incidents should not occur, he said the corporation is taking steps to prevent a recurrence.
Referencing recent safety actions, Opeifa noted that the Warri-Itakpe line was shut down three weeks ago for repairs to prevent similar issues.
He commended the ongoing work on the tracks and reiterated the NRC’s commitment to improving safety standards.
The derailment happened shortly after the train left Abuja at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
