It was a deeply emotional farewell in Ilaro as Nollywood said goodbye to one of its true legends.
In a sombre and befitting ceremony, veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, fondly known and loved as Ogogo, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.
The beloved Yoruba cinema icon, who passed away at the age of 66, was buried on Monday, 24th August 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites.
According to cbinews.tv, family members, friends, colleagues and residents gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects to a man who defined an era in Nollywood.
The Janazah prayers were held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro, with members of the Ilaro Muslim Community leading the funeral rites.
It was truly a gathering of stars. Nollywood veterans including Yinka Quadri and Jide Kosoko arrived early in Ilaro to honour their late friend and colleague. They were joined by other notable faces such as Mister Latin, Dele Odule, Olaiya Igwe, Fathia Balogun and Kolawole Ajeyemi.
The burial comes just 24 hours after the heartbreaking news of his death was announced by Jide Kosoko, who confirmed that Ogogo passed away at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, 23rd August 2026.
A true legend is gone, but his legacy on our screens will live on forever.
Rest in peace, Ogogo.
