Worried about Ebola making its way into Nigeria? FAAN says there’s no confirmed case in the country and has stepped up health screening at international airports to keep travellers safe.
According to cbinews.tv, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reassured Nigerians and international travellers that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola virus disease anywhere in the country, despite growing concerns over outbreaks reported in parts of Central Africa.
In a statement released on Wednesday, FAAN said it has already tightened preventive measures across Nigeria’s international airports to stop any possible importation of the deadly virus.
The Authority explained that strong health surveillance and monitoring systems have been activated at airports nationwide, with officials carrying out enhanced screening for passengers arriving from high-risk countries.
FAAN added that it is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, and other relevant agencies to strengthen safety procedures and ensure early detection of any suspected case.
Passengers arriving at airports are now being screened for Ebola-related symptoms, while anyone suspected of showing signs of infection would be immediately isolated for further medical evaluation in line with both national and international health protocols.
The agency also revealed that it has stepped up staff awareness programmes, improved emergency response systems, and increased coordination with airport stakeholders to ensure rapid action if necessary.
While maintaining that Nigeria remains Ebola-free, FAAN urged travellers to stay calm and cooperate fully with health officials during airport screening exercises.
Passengers were also advised to promptly report any unusual symptoms or health concerns to authorities as part of efforts to protect public health and keep airport operations safe across the country.
