Party tells Kwankwaso's group, Tinubu, APC not behind NNPP's litigations...
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) said on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not behind ongoing litigations involving the party, rejecting allegations by a faction led by Rabiu Kwankwaso.
In a statement issued in Lagos by National Secretary Ogini Olaposi, the NNPP blamed the disputes and defections on what it described as Kwankwaso’s “high-handedness” and attempts to hijack the party.
The response followed comments by elder statesman Buba Galadima and his allies, who had accused Tinubu and the APC of sponsoring court cases to destabilise the party.
The NNPP described the allegations as “lazy and empty blackmail,” adding that they were unfounded and mischievous.
It said internal conflicts, including litigation initiated by expelled members, had contributed to defections, particularly among elected officials.
The party urged members who left to return, citing a 2025 national convention resolution granting automatic tickets to loyal elected officials ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It also announced the commencement of electronic membership registration in line with electoral guidelines, as it positions itself for the next polls.
The NNPP said it remained committed to peaceful political engagement and was not in conflict with any party or organisation.
