IPOB's leader orders full resumption of south-east economic activities...
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has directed a total end to the weekly Monday sit-at-home in the South-East.
The directive, according to a statement issued on Sunday by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, takes effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.
Powerful stated that all normal economic and social activities should resume without fear or intimidation.
“All markets, schools, offices, transport services, and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow. The era of Monday sit-at-home is over,” the statement read.
The group warned that any attempt to enforce the sit-at-home henceforth would be viewed as opposition to Kanu’s directive and the Biafran cause.
IPOB also stated that no state governor has the authority to forcibly shut down businesses of traders who may choose to exercise personal discretion.
The statement urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, adding that any market renovation or relocation must involve stakeholder consent and provision of temporary trading locations before commencement.
