NiMet predicts a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday, with safety advisories issued for residents.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Sunday to Tuesday, with chances of thunderstorms in several regions.
According to the agency, the northern region will experience predominantly sunny skies throughout the forecast period.
In the North Central region, sunny conditions with patches of clouds are expected, alongside isolated thunderstorms with or without rain over parts of Kogi, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kwara states.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine. Morning hours may bring isolated thunderstorms with light rain over areas such as Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Delta, and Cross River states, while later periods could see moderate rainfall across several states including Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
On Monday and Tuesday, similar patterns are expected nationwide, with sunny conditions dominating the north, intermittent cloud cover in the North Central, and increased thunderstorm activity across the south, particularly later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and advised residents to take precautions, including securing loose objects and avoiding driving during heavy rainfall.
The agency also cautioned against staying near tall trees during storms due to the risk of falling branches, and recommended disconnecting electrical appliances during heavy rain.
With temperatures expected to remain high, CBI News reports that NiMet advised the public to wear light clothing, stay hydrated, and remain in well-ventilated environments to reduce heat discomfort. Airline operators were also urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
