Six days, one Bible, and barely any sleep. Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack has just finished reading Scripture non-stop for 144 hours.
A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has just wrapped up a 144-hour Guinness World Record attempt for the longest marathon reading of the Holy Bible, reports cbinews.tv.
Videos shared by friends and supporters on Instagram show the moment she completed the feat on Monday, after six full days of continuous reading. Under Guinness World Records rules, she was only allowed short breaks for essential needs.
Dubbed “144 Hours in the Word”, the attempt was about more than just breaking a record. It was a faith-driven project aimed at encouraging deeper engagement with Scripture and inspiring believers to commit more time to Bible study.
Habibat’s journey to this point didn’t start last week. It reportedly began in June 2022, after years of preparation built on consistency, endurance and devotion.
A member of Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, Habibat finished the 144-hour reading on 29 June. The challenge kicked off on 22 June at the Novotel in Port Harcourt, with official Guinness World Records regulations in place. That meant reading continuously aloud, with only limited breaks allowed.
Her Senior Pastor, Dr Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, said the attempt was more than a world record bid. He described it as a spiritual project designed to exalt God’s Word and inspire believers.
The marathon drew huge support both in person and online. Clips show Habibat reading from a lectern while digital timers tracked her progress. Family, friends, church members and well-wishers cheered her on throughout, turning the event into both an endurance feat and a public expression of faith.
She’s following in the footsteps of another Nigerian, Samson Ajao, who was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2024 for the world’s longest marathon reading aloud. The Ibadan-born reader set the record at 215 hours, beating the previous 124-hour mark set by Kyrgyzstan’s Rysbai Isakov in 2022.
Habibat’s 144-hour performance will now go through official verification by Guinness World Records before it can be recognised.
