Samson Adamu appointed Acting General Secretary of Confederation of African Football...
Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, marking a historic milestone for the country more than 70 years after the body’s establishment.
CBI News reports that the appointment was confirmed on Sunday, March 29, in a statement by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Adamu replaces Véron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down to contest the presidential election of DR Congo’s football federation, FECOFA.
According to NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, Adamu’s nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by Congress at its meeting in Cairo on March 29, 2026.
“Prior to his appointment, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a pivotal role in the successful organisation of major continental competitions,” Olajire stated.
The NFF also celebrated the development in a post on 𝕏, congratulating Adamu on his elevation.
Adamu’s appointment follows years of contribution to African football administration.
In his previous role, he was instrumental in organising major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and key club competitions across the continent.
As Acting General Secretary, he will serve as the chief executive of CAF’s General Secretariat, overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, managing competitions, and ensuring compliance with governance and financial standards.
He will also represent CAF in engagements with stakeholders such as FIFA and national football associations.
The development is widely seen as a boost to Nigeria’s presence in continental football leadership.
While Nigerians such as Amaju Pinnick have held senior roles within CAF, none had previously occupied the organisation’s top administrative position.
