Big win for Nigerian football! Africa's biggest football decision-makers are coming to Abuja.

In a major boost for the country, Nigeria has been picked to host the Confederation of African Football's Ordinary General Assembly this November.

The announcement was made by CAF President Patrice Motsepe during a press briefing in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Motsepe couldn't hide his admiration for Nigeria, describing the nation as “a proud football nation.”

According to cbinews.tv, Motsepe said: “We’re going to meet in Abuja in Nigeria for the Ordinary General Assembly in November. Nigeria is a proud football nation and there’s a reason why I took it to Nigeria and there’s a reason why I’m looking at some of the countries in Africa because we have to do something very special in every one of the 54 countries on the continent.”

He stressed that CAF is committed to ensuring that football development reaches all 54 member associations, adding that every country must benefit from the organisation’s programmes and investments.

The CAF boss also spoke about the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, lamenting Nigeria’s absence from the tournament.

“I keep telling my Nigerian friends, you know, a World Cup for me without Nigeria, without Cameroon and many others is incomplete because Nigeria has always made us proud,” he said.

For context, the CAF General Assembly is the highest decision-making meeting in African football. It brings together presidents and representatives of all 54 member associations to deliberate on governance, competitions and the future of the game on the continent.

All eyes will be on Abuja in November.
