NFF open talks with Newcastle forward William Osula over switching international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria...
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has initiated talks with Newcastle United forward, William Osula, over a possible switch of international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria.
CBI News reports that Osula, 22, was born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father, making him eligible to represent three countries at the senior level.
Although he has featured for Denmark at youth level, he is yet to make his senior debut despite receiving a call-up for March fixtures against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic.
Football journalist Farzam Abolhosseini disclosed the development on 𝕏, noting that Nigeria has already made contact with the striker.
“William Osula has been contacted by the Nigerian Football Federation through his background, who want the bomber from Newcastle to represent the African country instead of Denmark,” he wrote.
“He was selected for the Danish national team in March, but did not make his debut.”
While Osula also remains eligible to play for France, Nigeria appears keen to secure his commitment before he makes a senior appearance for any other nation.
In a related development, German side Hamburger SV have until June 15 to decide whether to sign Nigerian winger Philip Otele on a permanent deal following his loan move from FC Basel.
The Bundesliga club paid a €1 million loan fee in January and would need to pay an additional €4.5 million to complete the transfer.
According to reports, discussions are expected to take place in May, with no final decision reached yet.
Otele, however, is currently serving a two-match suspension after receiving a red card in a derby defeat to Werder Bremen.
He has recorded one goal and one assist in nine appearances so far.
Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin previously praised the winger’s impact, saying, “He’s a great asset to our team up front. We’ll certainly get a lot of enjoyment out of him.”
