Oyedele promises growth, fiscal discipline as he resumes office as Finance minister...
Taiwo Oyedele has formally assumed office as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, pledging to deepen economic reforms and deliver tangible benefits for citizens.
Oyedele, who took over from Wale Edun, thanked his predecessor for laying the groundwork, noting that Nigeria stands at a critical juncture after steps to stabilise the economy.
He outlined key priorities including boosting productivity and growth through a predictable, investor-friendly policy environment, and enforcing fiscal discipline through transparent and prudent management of public resources.
The minister also pledged to optimise revenue and ensure fair taxation by broadening the tax base while reducing pressure on vulnerable groups, alongside strengthening coordination across government institutions to maximise policy impact.
Oyedele emphasised deeper collaboration with the private sector through public-private partnerships to support data-driven policymaking and implementation.
He said success would depend on execution, adding that the government remains committed to accountability, disciplined implementation and measurable results as it seeks to accelerate growth and build a more inclusive and stable economy.
