Big moves in Minna — Niger Tornadoes have just handed the reins to Kabiru Dogo, and he’s got one job: get them into Africa.
Right, let’s talk about it — Niger Tornadoes aren’t messing about this season. They’ve officially unveiled Kabiru Dogo as their new Technical Adviser on a three-year deal, and the brief is clear: grab a continental ticket from the Nigeria Premier Football League, no excuses.
The unveiling went down at the Niger State Ministry of Sports Development in Minna, where club management formally presented the gaffer. If his name rings a bell, it should — Dogo’s been around, with stints at Lobi Stars, Kwara United, Nasarawa United and Sunshine Stars.
And here’s the interesting bit: he’s actually still on duty with El-Kanemi Warriors, taking them to the President Federation Cup final against Ikorodu City this Saturday. Once that’s done, he’ll switch over to lead the Ikon Allah Boys into the 2026/27 NPFL season.
Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Secretary Nuhu Ngaski said the appointment ties straight into Governor Umar Bago’s “New Niger” vision. The message? Government’s backing the club to bounce back stronger, and they want Dogo to hit the ground running. Ngaski called Tornadoes “a source of pride” for Niger people and promised the state will give the team all the support it needs to go continental.
Club Chairman Abubakar Kuso doubled down on that. The target for 2026/27? Simple — one of those continental slots. He’s promised the Technical Crew full backing to make it happen.
Oh, and home games? They’ll be at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna. Renovation work kicks off immediately, with plans to wrap it up before the NPFL season starts in August.
Dogo himself sounded buzzed in his first words as Technical Adviser. He thanked the club and the Niger State Government for trusting him and vowed to build a side that can actually deliver on those continental dreams. Fans, he says, should expect a revitalised Niger Tornadoes — all in line with that “New Niger” agenda.
So, new coach, new vision, same ambition. Can Dogo take the Ikon Allah Boys to Africa? We’ll be watching.
