American singer sues Nigerian influencer over video post on social media...
American rapper Nicki Minaj has filed a lawsuit against Nigerian social media influencer Dr Penking over allegations of cyberbullying and copyright infringement.
CBI News reports that the dispute arose after Dr Penking posted an old video of Minaj on the social media platform 𝕏 on Saturday, adding a caption suggesting that the rapper was “already old” and should retire from the music industry.
“Nicki Minaj should understand that she has gotten old and retire," he wrote.
The post quickly went viral, prompting a response from Minaj, who questioned whether Dr Penking had the right to share a video she recorded years ago, particularly given the way it was presented.
“Do you have permission to use this video that I filmed years ago to harras me on this or any platform? You’ve just been added to the suit,” Minaj stated, indicating that the unauthorized use and insulting context of the video were key reasons for the legal action.
In response, Dr Penking defended his post, insisting that he was exercising his right to free speech.
“Tell Nicki Minaj that My self and my team are ready and eagerly anticipating her papers. Freedom of speech and expression is supreme in all constitutions in the world and I have the right to express my opinion at all times,” he wrote.
He continued: “Is she old? Yes she is 43. There is nothing harassing about this. It is publicly accessible information on Wikipedia. Should she retire? I think she should. That’s my personal opinion and I stand by it. You can agree or disagree. I will not be bullied or intimidated by Nicki Minaj or any other ‘celebrity.’”
