Ngozi Adeleke Tells Osun Voters to Come out and Vote

Leave your house and go and vote. That was the straight-to-the-point message from Osun First Lady Ngozi Adeleke this morning as she declared her polling unit totally peaceful despite days of tension before the election.
If you have been following the drama in Osun, you will know there has been a lot of noise in the build-up to today.
The wife of the Osun State Governor, Mrs Ngozi Adeleke, has appealed to eligible voters across the state to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise in the ongoing governorship poll.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday shortly after casting her ballot, Mrs Adeleke was in high spirits. She said voting was calm, orderly and completely free of the intimidation many had feared.
As you can see, there is no intimidation of any kind, she said.
And she did not stop there. In a direct appeal to every Osun indigene still at home, she said:
I am saying it authoritatively to every Osun indigene that there is peace; everything is going on peacefully. There is no rancour, there is no fight. There is no intimidation of any kind.
Please, wherever you are, as long as you are an electorate, please leave your house. Go to your polling unit and vote. That is your civic right.
The state, created in 1991 from old Oyo State, has about 1.9 million registered voters according to INEC data, spread across 30 Local Government Areas and 332 wards.
Historically, Osun is one of Nigeria's most fiercely contested battlegrounds. Remember 2018? That election went to a controversial rerun before Gboyega Oyetola of the APC was declared winner. Then in 2022, Senator Ademola Adeleke flipped the script and won on the PDP platform, becoming the first Osun governor to win with such a wide margin in recent years.
This time around, Governor Adeleke, who cast his own vote earlier today at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, Ede North LGA, is seeking reelection, but on the platform of the Accord Party, in what analysts say is a major political realignment ahead of 2027.
It is why today’s poll has been so tense. In the past week, civil society groups and party chieftains had raised concerns over security and alleged voter intimidation, prompting a heavy deployment of police, NSCDC and other agencies across the state. Voting commenced this morning under tight security.
For now, at least at the First Lady's polling unit, the mood is calm. And her message is simple: peace is here, so come out and be counted.
