A new manager, a mountain training camp, and one massive Neymar-shaped question mark Brazil’s World Cup build-up is anything but dull.
It’s all systems go for Brazil up at Granja Comary in Teresopolis, where Carlo Ancelotti is busy whipping the squad into shape ahead of the 2026 World Cup, cbinews.tv reports.
Thursday marked training session number two under the Italian gaffer since the boys checked into the Brazilian Football Confederation’s mountain hideaway in Rio de Janeiro state. Think crisp air, tough drills, and a lot of tactical whiteboard action.
The players got stuck into physical conditioning, recovery sessions, and team meetings as Ancelotti tries to get everyone singing from the same hymn sheet before Brazil’s World Cup opener.
Goalkeeper Weverton Pereira da Silva seems to be loving the new vibe. Speaking at a press conference, he said: “He seeks the best for the group. He never focuses on individualistic issues and thinks about the team, connecting and creating a good atmosphere.”
But he’s also feeling the weight of the shirt. “We have the responsibility to get the national team out of this crisis, to represent the country, the nation, in the World Cup,” Weverton added.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room, Neymar. The star forward was a no-show at training after being carted off for medical tests on his right calf. The CBF confirmed he’d been sent to a private clinic in Teresopolis for imaging.
And the news isn’t great. Word later emerged that he’s picked up a grade-two calf injury. That means no warm-up friendlies for him, and he’s now a major doubt for Brazil’s World Cup opener against Morocco.
So what’s next? Brazil will wrap up prep with two home friendlies, Panama on May 31 and Egypt on June 5 before kicking off their World Cup campaign against Morocco at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on June 13.
