Newcastle have pulled off another big one! The Magpies have secured one of France's most exciting young midfield talents in a deal worth €35 million.

The Magpies have announced the signing of French midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco on a five-year deal, with both clubs confirming the move on Friday.

According to reports, the deal is worth around €35 million, about $40 million, with Monaco also set to receive a percentage of any future sale of the 20-year-old.

And Bamba himself could not hide his excitement.

"I was very excited when I heard Newcastle were interested in signing me," he said. "I know about the history of the club, and I've visited the stadium already, which is amazing. I can't wait to be on the pitch there and hope to have some great times with the fans."

The youngster, who becomes Newcastle's fourth signing of the summer, added: "I'm excited to test myself in a new league, the biggest league in the world. I learned a lot last season, and now I feel ready for this new opportunity. I will give my all for this club."

Bamba joined Monaco back in 2021 but has had limited game time, making just 25 appearances in total - 18 in Ligue 1, two in the French Cup and five in the Champions League. Monaco finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was full of praise for his recruit, describing him as "another exciting, young signing who we're really looking forward to working with".

"Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with huge growth potential," Howe said. "His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on."

It is a statement of intent from Newcastle, who will be looking to improve on their 12th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
