Good news for Nigerian students, after weeks of waiting and complaints online, your upkeep allowance is finally dropping!
In a major relief for beneficiaries across the country, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially commenced payment of the June and July upkeep allowances.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde, and several students have already taken to X to share screenshots of their credit alerts as proof.
According to cbinews.tv, Akinteye assured students that every outstanding backlog will be cleared.
In his statement, he said: “The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced. As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind.”
He also appealed to beneficiaries who are yet to receive theirs to remain calm, explaining that the disbursement is being done in batches.
“To all beneficiaries, I urge you to remain patient as payments are processed. If you have not received yours yet, kindly stay calm, as disbursements are being made in batches. We are here for you, always, and we will continue to stand firmly in defence of the welfare and interests of Nigerian students. Aluta Continua!” he added.
This comes after weeks of frustration from students over the delay in the monthly allowance, which is part of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme that provides monthly financial support to eligible tertiary institution students, in addition to tuition fees paid directly to their schools.
So, if you are a beneficiary, keep an eye on your bank app — yours could be next.
