For many families in Shuwa and Gulak, this food support couldn't have come at a better time. As communities continue to recover from the devastating impact of insurgency, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) is stepping in once again to provide much-needed relief.
According to cbinewstv, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed essential food items to vulnerable households in Shuwa and Gulak communities in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The distribution exercise was supervised by Engr. Joseph Francis, representing the NEDC Adamawa State Coordinator, Barrister Khalifa Lawan.
The Commission says the intervention is part of its ongoing efforts to tackle food insecurity and improve the wellbeing of families who have endured years of conflict and displacement in the North East.
Shuwa and Gulak were among the communities worst affected during the height of insurgent attacks, with thousands forced from their homes and livelihoods disrupted. Although peace has gradually returned, many residents are still working hard to rebuild their lives.
Community leaders welcomed the support, describing it as timely and much needed. A representative from Gulak said the food items would provide relief for many households as they continue their journey towards recovery.
The NEDC also explained that the initiative forms part of its North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan, which focuses on humanitarian assistance, reconstruction and sustainable development across the region.
Beyond food relief, the Commission revealed it is reconstructing schools, healthcare facilities and business structures in Madagali to encourage lasting social and economic recovery. It added that its interventions are specifically targeted at the most vulnerable members of society, including widows, elderly people and internally displaced persons.
