NEDC Approves N100bn 50 Megawatt Solar Project for North East

Power is number one, two and three. Now the NEDC is backing that with N100bn to light up the North East.
The North East Development Commission has approved a N100bn plan to deliver 50 megawatts of solar power across the region, as reported by cbinews.tv.
Managing Director Mohammed Alkali disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing in Abuja. He said the board has approved immediate rollout of modular solar systems to schools, hospitals, markets and other critical public infrastructure in the six states.
The project is part of the third phase of its master plan, moving from recovery to expansion. Alkali said 61 per cent of residents still lack power and without it nothing works.
He said the approach will be modular not conventional, with units installed directly where needed to support education, health and commerce.
The commission also plans 10,000 solar powered electric tricycles and buses assembled in Nigeria, approved by President Bola Tinubu, to create jobs for youths and promote clean transport. Charging points will run on the new solar network.
Alkali added that the commission has delivered over 300 kilometres of roads, about 150 bridges, more than 100,000 solar streetlights, over 500 solar boreholes and increased MRI machines in the region from one to eight.
