NECO Releases 2026 SSCE Results

Over 1.3 million Nigerian teenagers have just had their fate decided. NECO has dropped the 2026 SSCE results, and there’s good news on exam cheating.
As reported by cbinews.tv, the National Examinations Council released the results on Thursday at a press briefing by its Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi.
Here’s the breakdown:
1,378,048 candidates registered; 1,371,992 actually sat for the papers.
804,948 (58.67%) got five credits, including English and Maths, the golden ticket for university admission.
1,126,118 (84.70%) got five credits irrespective of English and Maths.
Malpractice crashed: Only 1,496 cases were recorded this year, compared to 3,878 in 2025. That’s a massive 61% drop.
For hundreds of thousands of families across Nigeria, this result is not just a statistic. It’s the difference between JAMB, admission, or another year at home. That 58.67% pass rate means over 800,000 young Nigerians can now confidently apply for tertiary institutions.
Prof. Wushishi puts it down to one thing: Computer-Based Testing (CBT).
NECO is following the JAMB model, moving away from paper to computers, making it harder to leak papers or smuggle in answers. The Council also distanced itself from so-called "miracle centres."
“We don’t know miracle centres because we have only one school and we cannot be associated with miracle centres. If there are miracle centres, it is the state governments that established these... or they are privately owned,” Wushishi told journalists, according to cbinews.tv.
For years, NECO has battled a reputation for mass malpractice compared to WAEC. The 2023 and 2024 results saw malpractice figures hovering around 8,000 and 4,000 respectively. This 2026 figure of under 1,500 is the lowest in recent history, a sign the CBT gamble might finally be paying off.
Candidates can now check their results on the NECO portal, neco.gov.ng.
Those with 5 credits, including English and Maths, can proceed to JAMB processing.
NECO says it will continue the full migration to CBT for all its exams.
