Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency , the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has recorded another major breakthrough as operatives intercepted over 4,000kg of Canadian Loud worth N10.4 billion at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos, exposing a sophisticated international drug trafficking network spanning Canada, Morocco, the UK, and the United States.
NDLEA operatives have intercepted a massive consignment of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 4,173.5 kilograms with an estimated street value of over N10.4 billion at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos.
According to the agency, the seizure followed months of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated international tracking of the shipment, which reportedly originated from Toronto, Canada, on March 28, 2026.
The container was said to have been moved by rail to Montreal before being loaded onto the vessel Jakarta Express Voyage. It later passed through Tanger Med Port in Morocco before arriving in Lagos aboard another vessel, Osaka Voyage, on May 9, 2026.
NDLEA disclosed that the operation was carried out through the combined efforts of its Marine Intelligence Unit and the Tincan Island Strategic Command, working closely with international partners including the United Kingdom Home Office International Operations, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The illicit substances were reportedly concealed inside two vehicles — a used Ford bus and a Mercedes-Benz C300 — hidden within the shipping container.
The agency noted that the seizure comes barely four days after operatives uncovered another stash of Canadian Loud weighing 2,326 kilograms worth over N5.8 billion in a Lekki mansion allegedly used as a drug warehouse.
Speaking during the handover of the seized drugs in Lagos, NDLEA Director of Seaports Operations, ACG Ibinabo ArchieAbia, described the operation as proof of the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence-led enforcement against transnational drug trafficking.
Reacting to the development, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and vigilance.
Marwa warned that recent large-scale seizures indicate an intensified attempt by international drug cartels to flood Nigeria with synthetic cannabis products, stressing that security agencies remain committed to frustrating such operations.
