NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking Across Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a series of high-profile arrests and seizures across the country, targeting cocaine, methamphetamine, synthetic cannabis, tramadol, and other illicit drugs.
A major arrest was made at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, where 62-year-old businessman Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke was caught attempting to fly to China with 95 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.589 kilograms ingested in his body.
Izueke, who runs a clothing and auto parts business in Lagos, claimed he trafficked the drugs to fund the construction of his country home in Iwollo, Enugu State.
In Abuja, NDLEA intercepted methamphetamine concealed in MP3 speakers during an attempted smuggling operation from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna.
Ebube Okeke and his accomplices Evans Ugwu, Mohammed Eze Arinze, and Friday Michael were arrested following the seizures, which included parcels weighing 173 grams and 28 grams of meth.
In Taraba State, Yusuf Abubakar, 32, was apprehended transporting 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in Hollandia yogurt packs from Lagos to Mubi, Adamawa State.
Oyo State also witnessed major seizures:
Shuaibu Abdulrahman, 29, a Beninois national, was arrested with 149.6 kg of skunk hidden in rice shafts at Ibudo-Igboho village, Sooro Kishi.
In Ibadan, Adeniyi Adeola (a.k.a Prince) was caught with 10,820 ampoules of pentazocine and 117,820 capsules of tramadol.
NDLEA also arrested kingpin Jimoh Nurudeen, 40, and accomplice Ogundipe Yusuf, 27, at Badeku, Ibadan, recovering chemicals, 14 grams of skunk, production paraphernalia, ₦7,408,400, and two vehicles used in drug production.
Other notable seizures include:
- 395,400 tramadol capsules concealed in a petrol tanker in Kwara State.
- 203 kg of skunk seized from Izuchukwu Azubuike, 37, and Ifunaya Mmadueke, 32, in Imo State.
- 420 kg of skunk recovered in Ondo State.
- 31 wraps of cocaine found in a handbag of Eze Nodebechi Austin arriving from Cote D’Ivoire in Lagos.
- 3.6 kg of Canadian Loud and Colorado recovered from Adekunle Oluwatosin Olajide in Lagos Island.
- In Enugu, Emeka Okeke, 37, was arrested with various drugs and ₦457,700 cash.
NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers across MAKIA, Marine, FCT, Taraba, Oyo, Kwara, Imo, Ondo, and Lagos Commands for their professionalism and encouraged continued commitment to drug supply and demand reduction.
The agency also maintained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaign in schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities nationwide, including visits to Agulu Awka Community Secondary School (Anambra), Okeodo Community High School (Oyo), Wisdom Foundation Secondary School (Lagos), and an advocacy visit to the Emir of Suleja, Niger State.
