In a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) officially zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term, a move expected to boost the chances of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and other southern contenders.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.
CBI News reports that the decision was reached during the maiden National Convention of the party, where a motion presented by Afam Victor Ogene, representing Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the 10th National Assembly, was unanimously adopted by party delegates.
According to the resolution, after the completion of the four-year tenure by a southern candidate, the party’s presidential ticket will automatically return to Northern Nigeria.
The development is seen as a major boost for Peter Obi and other southern aspirants who may now seek the party’s presidential nomination ahead of the 2027 elections.
