With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the Nigeria Democratic Congress is putting its campaign machinery together, from appointing key officials to preparing polling agents to help protect votes on election day.
Nigeria’s Democratic Congress, NDC, says it will inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council on October 20 as it steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas announced the date in Abuja, saying the party is consulting its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, before finalising key appointments.
Positions under consideration include Director-General, Finance Director, Director of Mobilisation and spokesperson. The party says careful selection is aimed at avoiding internal disagreements that could disrupt its campaign.
Cleopas says Obi and Kwankwaso have been engaging Nigerians through town hall meetings, with another scheduled for Enugu on October 15.
The party is also preparing polling agents across constituencies, saying it wants to strengthen election-day representation and help ensure votes are properly recorded and counted.
While welcoming support groups such as the Obidient Movement and OK Movement, Cleopas urged them to respect the party’s formal leadership structures.
With the 2027 election approaching, the key test will be whether the NDC can turn its consultations and organisational plans into effective nationwide mobilisation and credible vote protection.
