INVESTITURE CEREMONY OF PROFESSOR ANTHONY NNAEMEKA IKEFUNA AS 24TH
PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL COLLEGE OF NIGERIA
The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria is pleased to announce the investiture of Professor Anthony Nnaemeka Ikefuna, MD, FMCPaed, as its 24th President. He was elected at the 137th Governing Board Meeting held on Friday, December 5, 2025, and his investiture ceremony will take place at the College premises on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
Professor Ikefuna is a distinguished academic, researcher, and paediatrician whose career reflects decades of excellence in medical education, clinical practice, and leadership.
A graduate of the University of Ibadan, he completed his medical training on a Federal Government scholarship and later specialised in Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu.
He rose to the rank of Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2011.
Within the College, Professor Ikefuna has served in several key capacities.
He was a Vice President of the College and previously held roles as Chairman, Secretary, Senate Member, and Chief Examiner of the Faculty of Paediatrics.
He also chaired important committees, including the Quality Assurance Committee, the Disciplinary Committee, and the Senate Committee on Credentials and
Fellowship Award (SCCFA). His contributions extend to coordinating examinations, accreditation visits, and mentoring generations of paediatricians through the College’s Fellowship programmes.
Beyond his service to the College, Professor Ikefuna has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, authored book chapters widely used by medical students and resident doctors, and supervised over 70 Fellowship dissertations and numerous postgraduate theses. Many of his mentees have risen to senior academic and professional positions, including professorships.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, a Foundation Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialities of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.
The Management and Staff of the College congratulate Professor Ikefuna on his investiture and wish him a successful tenure as he continues to advance medical education and professional excellence in Nigeria.
