From Deputy Majority Leader to Minority Leader, Natasha Osawaru is climbing fast, and this time she's doing it as Mrs Idibia.
Here’s the gist, as reported by cbinews.tv:
Big moves in Edo State politics! Natasha Osawaru, wife of music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and the lawmaker representing Egor Constituency, has just been named the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The announcement came during plenary on Monday after a full reshuffle of the House’s principal officers. It all kicked off after Blessing Agbebaku stepped down as Speaker amid reports of an impeachment plot. He’s now been replaced by Yekini Idaiyi of Akoko Edo II Constituency.
Natasha, who sits on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is no stranger to leadership. She previously served as Deputy Majority Leader, so this is more of a promotion than a fresh start.
Reacting to the news in a statement shared on her Facebook page, she said the role is about trust, not titles.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said. “Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise.”
She also reaffirmed her loyalty to her constituents and her party, adding:
“As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute.”
According to cbinews.tv, colleagues described her elevation as a clear vote of confidence, noting that she has “consistently proven that effective leadership transcends partisan divides.”
For context, Natasha tied the knot with 2Baba in July 2025 following his separation from Annie Macaulay Idibia. The couple welcomed their first child together and held a dedication ceremony back in February.
Edo politics just got a lot more interesting.
