El-Rufai family mourns as matriarch Umma El-Rufai dies...
Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away.
Details surrounding her death were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, but family sources said she died on Friday afternoon.
The development was confirmed by Hon. Bello El-Rufai, the deceased’s grandson and a member of the House of Representatives.
Announcing the loss in a post on Facebook, Bello expressed gratitude for the life she lived and asked the public to remember the family in prayers.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago,” he wrote.
“She is the biological mother of our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai. We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.”
The death occurred at a time when Nasir El-Rufai is currently facing legal proceedings.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recently arraigned him on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering following about a month in detention.
El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
A Federal High Court in Kaduna, presided over by Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, adjourned hearing of his bail application to March 31.
