Heading out in Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon or Wamba this Saturday? You might want to rethink your plans. Police have put the brakes on movement for the Nasarawa North by-election.
Heads up, Nasarawa folks. The Nasarawa State Police Command is not playing around ahead of Saturday’s Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election. They have rolled out officers and all the operational gear needed to keep things calm, credible and trouble-free, reports cbinews.tv.
Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed says the whole point is to make sure voters, INEC officials, observers and everyone else involved can do their bit without any drama. The areas affected? Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba LGAs.
Here is the big one: from midnight till 6:00 p.m. on election day, no cars and no motorcycles moving around those LGAs. The only people allowed on the road are those on essential duty with proper accreditation, according to the statement released on Friday in Lafia by Police PRO, SP Ramhan Nansel.
And if you are thinking of turning up at a polling unit or collation centre with your local vigilante crew or hunter squad, think again. The police have warned all quasi-security outfits and unauthorised groups to stay completely away. If you flout that order, you will be dealing with the law.
CP Mohammed reassured residents that the command is staying neutral and professional all through. His message to voters: come out peacefully and cast your vote without fear of harassment or intimidation.
He is also calling on all stakeholders and the public to work with security agencies, so the whole process goes smoothly.
